Return to In Person Worship - August 16

Dear GSUMC Family,

This journey we have been on since March has been long.  We have missed our time together in worship, study and fellowship.  We read the news and depending on what we read   or who we read, the information varies.  If we allow it this can create a paralyzing fear or a cavalier attitude that it is all blown out of proportion.  Neither extreme is helpful.

Throughout it all, the staff and I have sought to do the best we can to share the hope and love of Jesus Christ through our internet worship services, visits with our youth and children including VBS in the neighborhoods and youth packs in various homes.  Even though we have been physically apart our focus has been on you.  As we are reminded in Jeremiah 29:7 the faithful are admonished to “seek the welfare of the city…and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for   in its welfare you will find your welfare.”  It is our calling to put the needs of others in front of ourselves.  We have kept that in the forefront of all our decisions.

After much discussion in our staff meeting this afternoon we have made the difficult decision to begin in house worship.  So beginning on August 16 we will once again worship as a family in the sanctuary.  Our worship times will remain the same - 9:00 am Contemporary, 11:00 am Traditional and 7:00 pm Thursday for The Bridge.  Sunday school classes will work with myself and Julianna to set their time and place.

Below,  you will find a Covenant that we feel is necessary for all who volunteer and attend our services and Sunday school.  We are all counting on each other to be responsible.  The numbers here in Gulf Shores are slightly better but still in a dangerous range and to keep everyone - congregation and staff - as safe as possible we feel it is imperative that everyone covenant together to seek the welfare of our congregation.

In preparation for this time the staff would like to invite you on a prayer walk to pray for our church, our safe return to in house worship and the future of our ministries and how God will use this time for God’s glory as we move ahead.  We will meet in the north parking lot and walk the perimeter of our buildings in prayer on Tuesday, August 11 at 9:00 am.  (rain date on Friday, August 14 at 9:00 am.)

Thank you for your patience and all the encouragement you have shared with our staff.
