gulf shores umc and The discernment process

On November 17th the members of Gulf Shores United Methodist Church came together in a “Church Conference Meeting” led by our District Superintendent, Dr. Debora Bishop, to vote on a resolution to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church. The members in attendance voted to approve the resolution to disaffiliate with 259 (81%) voting “Yes”, 56 (19%) voting “No”, and 1 voting to abstain.

As we move forward, our church Trustees will work with the Annual Conference Trustees to finalize the Disaffiliation Agreement which will ultimately be ratified by an Annual Conference vote scheduled for May 7th , 2023. Also, very soon, our Church Council will be working diligently to bring a presentation to the church body about the connectional possibilities going forward (i.e. The Global Methodist Church, The Free Methodist Church, independent, etc.). This will include a plan to handle the amount we must pay the annual conference to retain our buildings and property.
